About Jayendra Hanley

When I look back on my life, I always have to ask myself, how in the world did I get here? I could have never guessed that I would be living in Europe and traveling around the world teaching Anusara Yoga. I feel so blessed to do what I love so much, to share the power and beauty of this path with open-hearted students in so many delightful places.

The blessings began when I met the great Siddha Yoga guru, Swami Muktananda, and experienced his Grace, which changed my life forever. He showed me that there is something grand and beautiful in life. He called it Chiti, Supreme Consciousness, and then gave me the experience that I am That. Ever since then, I have been a student of his and his beloved successor, Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. Their grace is the highest gift, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

Then 20 years ago, I met John Friend and discovered a whole new paradigm for practicing hatha yoga. John taught me that yoga can be fun. At its highest, it is a joyful expression of a full heart. In 2001 I received certification to teach Anusara® yoga . I continue to study and practice with John whenever I can. What can I say? John has created a yoga style that is the ultimate expression of that Supreme Consciousness: it is alive, inspiring, connecting us to our Hearts and to each other through the highest vision of life, and John created a technical system based on Tantric philosophy and the most forward-thinking developments in body awareness everywhere. And then he gives this to us to teach and share and be our own unique
expression of all of this? Well, life is good.

My third blessing is all of my friends and students and teachers all over the world who have embraced me as teacher, student, and friend. For the past seven years, I have been honored to live first in Madrid then in Holland, and from there, serve the European Anusara community by offering workshops, Immersions, and teacher trainings. I am so fortunate to be the blossoming of Anusara Yoga in communities around the world.
